August 2011 Brings Changes To Augusta Tech (Quarter to Semester (Q2S) Conversion and New Location opens)
In September 2007, a ground breaking ceremony was held for Augusta Technical College’s proposed new location. It was not an easy road for the campus due to various delays in construction, but truly a work in progress.
Fast forward to August 22, 2011 and the students are passing through the doors to Augusta Tech’s Columbia County Center for the first time! The classes being offered are at the diploma and degree level are include English, Math, Psychology, Business, Intro to Computers, Interpersonal Relations, Welding, Criminal Justice, Fine Arts, Adult Literacy (GED) and Learning Support.
President Terry Elam looks forward to the growth in enrollment and was satisfied with the growing number for the new location. As of the Wednesday before classes, 150 students were already enrolled for Columbia County.
From opening a new location to converting from quarters to semesters (Q2S)…the faculty and staff have been busy for months with a “Q2S” strategic plan. The semester instruction time is longer and they will have one less registration period. So take Q2S, opening a new location, beginning and expanding several new programs and all of the other duties on campus…and you will see that “growth is good” at Augusta Tech.
A grand opening celebration and ribbon cutting of the center is being planned for later this year.
