AUGUSTA TECHNICAL COLLEGE HOLDS GED GRADUATION
Augusta Technical College will hold its 2011 GED Graduation Ceremony at 3pm on Wednesday, June 15, at the James Brown Arena. The keynote speaker for this event is Mr. L David Olson.
Mr. L. David Olson, president and project manager for Savannah River Remediation, oversees a complex, integrated set of radioactive liquid waste facilities. Mr. Olson also maintains the Site’s tank farms to ensure Site missions can be executed.
Olson also manages work that is technically complex, logistically complicated and strategically connected to virtually every Site mission involving nuclear materials.
Savannah River Remediation is very supportive of the Adult Education Department and provides scholarships to help students acquire their GED.
“Augusta Tech is excited about celebrating the successes of our graduates, many of whom overcame obstacles and defied the odds, as they persevered towards their GED,” said Stefanie Bowie, executive director of Adult Education at Augusta Tech.
You’d have to look hard to find a more diverse group of students than this summer’s GED graduates from Augusta Technical College. Several of their instructors have written glowing reports about their students and their successes. Students who found “hope” in getting a GED and will now have a new lease on life.
Louvenia Mathews, a GED instructor, said of one of her students, “the promised light begin to shine again, and now coming up on graduation night, the light is much brighter than ever before, perseverance is the name of the game!”
Wednesday’s graduation ceremony is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. Graduates are asked to arrive early and the public is invited.
