Seven Augusta Technical College students have been named as ADP Scholars for the academic year 2010-2011. Each scholar receives a $1,000 scholarship from Automatic Data Processing, Inc.

The scholarships are funded through a $600,000 three-year grant from ADP to Augusta State, Paine College, and Augusta Technical College to enhance science education and to increase the number of graduates in science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM), and STEM-related fields.

Students who are receiving the scholarship for the second year include Charity Blue, a microcomputer support specialist student; Kiah May, a computer programming student; Latesha Hightower, a computer programming student; Robert Smith, a networking specialist student; and Shona Woods, a microcomputer support specialist student.

ADP Scholars who are receiving their first award include David Carter, a computer programming student; Rudolph Falana, a networking student; Joshua Gonzalez, a computer programming student; Christopher John Kygier, a networking student; Kenya Myers, a computer programming student; Terrance Walker, a computer programming student; and Johnny Whitaker IV, a computer programming student.

Recently, the STEM partners, Augusta Tech, Augusta State and Paine College held “Sci-Tech” for the children of employees of ADP. It was an event where science and technology came together from all 3 partners to feature demonstrations. Students of all ages got to build a networking cable, play Science Bingo, asu’s experiment ….. This is just one of the events that all three colleges have planned to express their appreciation to ADP for its support of education. The ADP Scholars from the colleges actually hosted the demonstrations of what they are learning in their fields.  In addition to scholarships, the ADP funding has allowed Augusta Tech to help students earn their computer certifications and to provide additional staff development for employees.

Automatic Data Processing is one of the world’s largest providers of business outsourcing solutions. Leveraging nearly 60 years of experience, ADP, with nearly $9 billion in revenues and over 585,000 clients, offers the widest range of human resources, payroll, tax and benefits administration solutions from a single source. ADP is also a leading provider of integrated computing solutions to auto, truck, motorcycle, marine and recreational vehicle dealers throughout the world.  The ADP Augusta Solutions Center, a $40 million 160,000 square foot facility on Flowing Wells Road, celebrated its official grand opening earlier this year.  The Augusta Solutions Center, which currently employs over 500 people, will expand its work force to over 1,000 employees.
